The advantages of using CALL in teaching English

In this modern era, many people need technology for their necessity. People very depend on technology. Everyday people use technology for their lives, for example, using mobile phone, notebook, computer,  internet, etc. Many  advantages  of technology that people use in their daily activities especially in English teaching procces. One of the technologies which is very useful for helping teacher in giving the materials to students is by using CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning). There are some advantages of using CALL  in the English teaching. First, CALL can offer oppurtunities and freedom for learners to choose any topics. Second, CALL’s flexibility of  time allows the students to determine topics. The last, the students interact in the target language  with  an authentic audience.
First, CALL can offer opportunities and freedom for the learners to choose any topics. Learners or users can select the subject that it is available in the package individually in what they want to learn. For example, there is an  English material which includes more specific topics in table of contents, such as  tenses, articles, conjunctions, etc. Then, the learners want to learn about “tenses” only, so they  click on the box labelled “tenses”, and it will display all about tenses, such as simple present tense, simple past tense, and simple future tense. Afterwards, learners have freedom to read all materials about tenses or just read one of them. So, CALL allows the users to make their own decisions to develop a selective and critical reading habit which enables them to scan a  amount  of information of their interest.
Second, CALL’s flexibility of time allows the students to determine what particular topics and how long they want to learn.The students still have opportunity to learn the certain topics taught in the classroom as far as the topic is available in the CALL program when they cannot attend the classroom. By using CALL, teachers and students can use the time effectively in the process of language learning. The users can utilize the time safely. The result of their study indicates that feedback has a significant impact on students’s motivation and leading to increase the interesting in learning English. Thus, CALL’s flexibility of time permits the students to determine what particular topics and how long they want to learn.
The last, by using CALL, the students interact in the target language  with  an authentic audience. CALL supported the teachers and students to be an authentic audiences when students listen to native speaker from the computer and practiced dialogues. The computer or the internet provides dynamic and realistic situations with native speakers speaking. Through the interaction with their classmates and teachers, they become communicative in English properly. So, CALL is very helpul to students in improving of English speaking because the students interact in the target language with an authentic audience.
In short, CALL offers advantages too for learners in learning English. CALL can help learners to develop students’ skills in English language learning. Eventhough the teachers use CALL, it will be better if the teachers also carrying out their role so that the students can use their knowledge beyond the classroom.
